Year 5 Bikeability

This week a number of our Year 5 children have taken part in their Level 1 and 2 bikeability training, helping them to keep themselves safe on the road. Some of them have even had the opportunity to try out several of our new Hilldene bikes. The week long course has been a big success, with the children enjoying the challenges that they faced and the instructors being really impressed with their bike handling skills. Well done!

Children in Need - Y1

Today the children in Year One have dressed up in spotted clothes or Pudsy tops and donated £1 for BBC's Children in Need. Well done everyone!

Nursery - Pizza Making

We had had an enjoyable week in Nursery making delicious pizzas.

We spoke about our favourite pizza toppings and described what we were going to add to our pizzas.

Ingredients included cheese, red pepper, onion, mushrooms and sweetcorn.

Then we put our pizzas in the oven to cook. The cheese melted and they smelt lovely!

Finally we took our pizzas home to eat.

Try your luck at winning either Pudsey or Blush, with raffle tickets on sale tomorrow for £1 a strip. All the money raised will go to a worthy cause.

Thank you

RD have paired up with a primary school in Santurtzi, northern Spain, for an online eTwinning project.  We have sent our beloved blue alpaca, Annie, to spend some time in Spain, and our new friends have sent us their parrot, Norton.

We are going to share our adventures via the eTwinning website and will even exchange some cards and gifts through the post, whilst learning all about each others countries.

RD were sad to see Annie go but are very excited for her.  They were also very excited when Norton arrived on Monday.  They have spent the week playing with him and teaching him some English words.  He also helped us to answer the register in Spanish.

The children obviously had a great time making Norton feel welcome as Mrs Dudziec discovered over 200 Norton selfies on the iPad!

Year 6 Music

Wednesday, 15 November 2017

Year 6 music have begun to use the instruments to play chords. They can identify a chord and can count the beats in a bar, as well as identifying different notes. Year 6 can name individual notes on a stave and have been working very well together as a group.

Year 3 Maths

Tuesday, 14 November 2017

In Year 3 Maths we are looking at position and direction and using compass points; North, South, East and West, to direct ourselves. Today we were pirates looking for the treasure!

Hilldene Remembers

Monday, 13 November 2017

A special Remembrance Assembly was held on Friday morning to commemorate Armistice day, particularly remembering those in our own community who have suffered loss. Poppy wreaths, which were made by the pupils, were laid whilst the pupils sang a memorial song .  Maxwell, Nicole and Ria eloquently  shared their own poems and The moving poem, Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen was performed beautifully by pupils in Year 6.

Remembrance Day for our soldiers

Fallen heroes we remember you

You fought for our freedom and rights

We are proud of our heroes

You fought through many days and nights

I will wear a poppy today for Remembrance Day

For those who fought in the hard times so we could be free.

Maxwell (Y6)

Baby News!

Congratulations to Mrs Deverill on the safe arrival of her new daughter on 23rd October. Baby Emma made her arrival at 8.57pm weighing a healthy 7lb 9oz. Mother and baby are doing well and looking forward to paying us a visit at Hilldene!

Year 6 Science

Royal Liberty brought their chemistry roadshow to the Year 6 pupils last week, it was great to experience hands on experiments and witness live chemical reactions. The pupils from Royal Liberty explained how and why the reactions took place, gave us the opportunity to explore the resources and encouraged questions from both pupils and teachers.

Year 4 Assembly

Thursday, 9 November 2017

Wednesday was the day for Year 4 to have their assembly in-front of parents and guardians about what they've been learning in school so far. The children said how they remember to bring their P.E. kits in every week, homework handed in by Wednesday whilst also saying they've read Roald Dahl's book 'The Twits', and how they've wrote letters as though they were living next to the characters.

The children then told us how they've been reading 'The Iron Man' and have created 'Missing Posters' for the character. Roman Numerals in Maths was the next topic and Year 4 even did some Maths equations using Roman Numerals instead of conventional numbers.

Keep up the great work Year 4!

This week Reception had parents in for a meeting with Mrs Greening and had a chance to watch a lesson delivered by the class teachers.

Thank you to all the parents who attended and also the continued support you provide at home.
